Fera Science Ltd, on behalf of the Department for Agriculture and Plant Health (Defra) are undertaking a survey of UK poultry farmers and keepers to estimate the financial costs of avian influenza (AI) across the United Kingdom.
The survey will concentrate on the period between October 2021 and September 2022 and encourages all poultry farmers and keepers of birds across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to participate.
To achieve this, the survey will ask questions on how the housing orders and the extra biosecurity measures enforced, the restrictions to normal business, alongside higher operating costs and the loss of income from bird fatalities to AI, and depopulation has affected UK bird keepers.
Additionally, questions will also be asked about how your holding operates, what products you produce for sale and what biosecurity and housing measures you employed across the period to estimate a national-level estimate of income lost.
The survey will only take 20 minutes and the results will be shared with Defra, Welsh Government, Scottish Government, and DAERA. It will also be placed in the public domain.

Livetec services to poultry farming recognised by Defra
Our comprehensive range of services and advice to poultry farmers and bird keepers across the years have been recognised by Defra, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), the British Poultry Council (BPC) and the National Farmers Union (NFU).
We have been at a large number of notifiable disease outbreaks over the past decade and have helped hundreds of poultry farmers to protect their flocks from disease, as well as get them back on their feet after the worst happens.
