The importance of biosecurity
Covering the importance of biosecurity and lessons learned from the worst avian influenza outbreaks on record from 2022-2023, Julian highlighted both the impact on industry and on individual farmers.
To emphasise this further, Julian was joined on stage by Egg Producer and BFREPA Chairman, James Baxter. He was there to tell his personal story of experiencing a disease outbreak. James’s farm was struck down by AI in 2022 leading to him having to cull his entire flock.
Because James had a Livetec Contingency Plan in place, he was well placed to respond immediately to the outbreak declaration. His swift action, guided by Livetec’s Contingency Plan, meant that the time taken to return to normal operations was drastically reduced. He saved £45,000 in recovery costs as a result.
