How to maximise biosecurity

Time and again, poor biosecurity is highlighted as the cause of disease infection by the Animal and Plant Health Agency.

Sub-standard biosecurity has been the cause of whole flocks being depopulated and the financial and reputational loss that goes with an avian influenza outbreak. Many farmers are often led to believe that the use of cleaning and disinfecting or pharmaceuticals are an effective, standalone biosecurity measure. This simply is not the case, they only form a small part of good biosecurity practice.
